From photo to report

1. Open bagues.gibis.fr on your phone and photograph the ring close up, in good light.
2. Enter the municipality, Rouen or any other in the department; no municipality is ever shown publicly.
3. Pick the species from the list (pheasant, grey partridge, hare and red-legged partridge); sex and circumstances are optional.
4. Send it. For 24 hours you can still remove or add a photo.

What a reported ring is for

Every recovery reported gives a date, a distance and a species. Added together, they give an operation's recovery rate and how far the birds disperse after release: enough to adjust future releases in Seine-Maritime.

What next?

Once sent, the report is kept; if you left an e-mail address, an acknowledgement follows. The ring number is then matched against known releases; if one took place in a department whose federation is registered, that federation validates the recovery. Without a match, the report stays on file for Seine-Maritime, unpublished, until a federation can validate it. No hunter, ACCA or municipality is ever named: only totals per department and points rounded to about 1 km.

Within the Normandy region

The other departments of the region are Calvados, Manche, Orne and Eure. None of the five departments in the region has a federation tracking its rings on RingFollow at present (see the list by region). The share of artificial surfaces (10%) is higher here than in any other department of the Normandy region.

Seine-Maritime in figures

The European CORINE Land Cover inventory (2018) puts agricultural areas at 73% of the area and forests and semi-natural areas at 16%. The rest is shared between artificial surfaces (10%) and water bodies (1%). INSEE counts 707 municipalities and 1,260,964 inhabitants (2022 population count) over about 6,300 km². Among the 96 departments of metropolitan France, it ranks 5th for the number of municipalities (707). Besides Rouen, the prefecture, the department has two sub-prefectures: Dieppe and Le Havre.
