A ringed partridge or pheasant recovered in Oise only tells its story if the ring number is reported, and that takes a minute. RingFollow never publishes the name of a hunter, an ACCA (approved communal hunting association) or a municipality, nor any count below 3. On the administrative map, department 60 belongs to the Hauts-de-France region; its prefecture is Beauvais.
The federation and RingFollow
The Oise hunters' federation (FDC 60) does not use RingFollow at present. Reporting remains possible and useful: the recovery is recorded, then reviewed by a federation; GIBIS plays no part in the validation. The ring number leads back to the original release: if the federation of the department where it took place is registered, it validates; if not, the report waits, filed under department 60.
Found a ring: what to do
- Photograph the ring, on the leg or once removed; if the number runs all the way round, take several shots.
- Say where the bird was taken: the municipality is used for validation and never appears in public.
- Pick the species from the list (hare, pheasant, grey partridge and red-legged partridge); sex and circumstances are optional.
- Send the report; name, phone and e-mail are optional, but an e-mail address gets you an acknowledgement.

The Hauts-de-France region and RingFollow
Besides Oise, the Hauts-de-France region comprises Pas-de-Calais, Somme, Nord and Aisne. None of the five departments in the region has a federation tracking its rings on RingFollow at present (see the Federations page). The share of agricultural areas (69%) is lower here than in any other department of the Hauts-de-France region.
What next?
Once sent, the report is kept; if you left an e-mail address, an acknowledgement follows. Next comes the matching: does the ring belong to a recorded release? If so, and if that department's federation is registered, it reviews the recovery. If no release matches, the report is kept under department 60 and stays out of the public totals. Reports are kept for five hunting seasons after the recovery, then retained only in anonymised form for statistics (see the privacy policy).
Breeding and restocking
RingFollow tracks rings; breeding, species and restocking are covered on gibis.fr: game birds for restocking and red-legged and grey partridges.
Oise and its neighbours
Six departments border it: Somme to the north, Seine-Maritime to the west, Seine-et-Marne to the south-east, Val-d'Oise to the south-west, Eure to the west and Aisne to the east. Beyond the regional boundary lie the regions of Normandy and Île-de-France. Among its neighbours, the share of agricultural areas ranges from 53% (Val-d'Oise) to 82% (Somme), against 69% here (CORINE Land Cover 2018). No federation registered on RingFollow lies within 400 km; all of them are listed on the Federations page.
Land and population
The European CORINE Land Cover inventory (2018) puts agricultural areas at 69% of the area and forests and semi-natural areas at 22%. The rest is shared between artificial surfaces (9%) and water bodies (1%). INSEE counts 680 municipalities and 829,899 inhabitants (2022 population count) over about 5,890 km². Besides Beauvais, the prefecture, the department has three sub-prefectures: Clermont, Compiègne and Senlis.

Why report a recovery
ACCAs and federations fund releases; rings are the only way to know what they yield in the field. Consolidated figures are public on the Statistics page, by department.
Frequently asked questions
Should a ring engraved with an address, found in Oise, be reported here?
No. RingFollow only covers game-farm rings, which carry no address. Rings from scientific ringing schemes are reported to those schemes; this site's guide tells you more.
Where do I report a pheasant ring found in Oise?
On bagues.gibis.fr, from a phone: a photo of the ring, the species and the municipality where the bird was taken are enough. No account is needed.
Does GIBIS validate reports from Oise?
No, never. Recoveries are validated by the federation of the department where the bird was released, if it is registered on RingFollow.
Do I have to give my name to report a ring in Oise?
No. Name, phone and e-mail are optional; an e-mail address only gets you an acknowledgement. Only the validating federation sees what you leave.
Why are there no statistics for Oise?
A department's statistics are only published if its federation tracks its rings on RingFollow and at least 3 releases are recorded there. The Oise hunters' federation (FDC 60) does not use RingFollow at present.
A federation that would like to track its rings
A registered federation validates the recoveries in its own department and can export its data. Full list: Federations; contact: gibis@gibis.fr.
